Meet Alison Lamb
How long have you been a funeral director?
I have been a Funeral Director since January 2026 and prior to that I was a Funeral Director Assistant from July 2025. After working in all of the ACT Branches, I am now based at Tuggeranong and proud to be supporting families located in the southern suburbs of Canberra.
I have always worked in service-oriented areas of the community and feel that now working in the funeral industry has actually been thirty years in the making. White Lady Funerals and Tobin Brothers have looked after my family for many years and now I have the privilege to care for families who have also lost their loved ones.
What do you like about being a funeral director?
What I like most about being a Funeral Director is being able to guide and support families through their darkest of times and assist them to arrange a meaningful and personalised commemoration or celebration of life for their loved one.
It’s a feeling like no other to be part of something so personal and meaningful for families. To witness the transformation from insurmountable grief to the first steps of healing is truly quite special and I’m honoured to be a part of that process for them.
The role of a Funeral Director can be quite demanding with high levels of responsibility so I am also blessed to be part of a supportive team that looks out for each other so that we may continue supporting families long into the future.
Do you speak any other languages?
I can sign the alphabet but it is too slow to hold a proper conversation. AusLan is best for communicating properly using sign.
What do you like about your local area?
I love how Canberra has the Brindabella Ranges and Namadgi National Park on our doorstep and that the mountains and the coast are only a couple of hours drive in either direction for great weekends away. I also love how we experience four proper seasons in the year (sometimes even in the one day!) Autumn is beautiful in Canberra and provides much needed relief after hot, dry Summers. Canberra comes alive in Spring and follows crisp, Winter days.
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
I am a Rotarian and enjoy volunteering for our Club projects and activities. I also like to spend time in my garden, take our 4WD into the hills for day trips in nature and enjoy leisurely long weekends away in the mountains or on the coast.
What song would you play at your funeral and why?
I absolutely adore the score of The Man From Snowy River and the music accompanying the final credits will feature at my funeral service; most likely during the lowering or as the exit song. I have loved this music since I was about ten years old and it was played at our wedding and my father’s funeral.
What’s the most remarkable funeral you’ve ever arranged?
I have had the honour of Arranging and Conducting many remarkable celebrations of life; all are memorable and special in their own way. One was in a beautiful outdoor setting at a local homestead and sheep station, another was accompanied by a car club cortege, and another the dress code was to wear bright colours or a particular colour. For most funeral services, you can see the family’s personal touch whether it may be a display of their loved one’s items, the gifting of trinkets or chocolates upon entry or their role as a pallbearer or speaker.
One particular service that stands out to me was one for an elderly lady who had no surviving family and it was her young neighbour who organised her funeral. It was a simple but meaningful Service that was very well-attended. What stood out for me that I will never forget was that she was not related to anyone in the Chapel but had unknowingly touched so many lives throughout her own that they attended to pay their respects.
What's one thing people don't know about you?
I love travelling our country from the cool of the mountains to the warmth of the coast, from the red of the outback to the green of the forests and everywhere in between. I have been to every state and territory in Australia but have never travelled overseas. I am about to embark on my first overseas trip to beautiful New Zealand.
