How long have you been a funeral director?
I've been a funeral director for three months, based in Canberra, ACT. Although I'm relatively new to the role, my personal experience, qualification in counselling and my passion for supporting people through life's most difficult moments help me bring compassion, empathy and care to every family I meet.
What do you like about being a funeral director?
What I love most is having the opportunity to make a meaningful difference during one of the hardest times in a family's life. It's a privilege to listen to their stories, learn about their loved one, and help create a personalised farewell that truly reflects the life they lived. Being able to provide comfort, guidance and reassurance is incredibly rewarding.
What do you like about your local area?
I love that Canberra has a strong sense of community. It's a city where people genuinely care for one another, and it offers a beautiful balance of peaceful natural surroundings and modern facilities. From our lakes and gardens to our close-knit neighbourhoods, Canberra provides many meaningful locations for families to gather, reflect and celebrate the lives of their loved ones.

What makes your brand special?
At White Lady Funerals and Tobin Brothers, every family is treated with genuine compassion, dignity and respect. We understand that every life is unique, which is why we take the time to listen and create personalised farewells that honour each person's story. Our experienced team supports families every step of the way, ensuring they feel cared for, informed and supported throughout the entire journey.
What inspired you to work in funeral planning?
After the sudden loss of my father, I experienced firsthand the compassion, professionalism and guidance provided by our funeral director. The care my family received during such a difficult time left a lasting impression on me and inspired me to pursue a career where I could offer that same support to others. Combined with my qualification in counselling, becoming a funeral director felt like a natural way to help families navigate grief with empathy and kindness.
How do you and your team support families at such an important time?
We understand that every family's needs are different, so we take the time to listen, answer questions and guide them through each step of the funeral planning process. From the initial arrangements through to the day of the service, we're there to provide practical support, compassionate care and reassurance. Our goal is to ease some of the burden, allowing families the time and space to focus on honouring and celebrating the life of their loved one.
What would you like to have included at your funeral and why?
Live bagpipes, after experiencing the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo live. The sound of the pipes is powerful, moving, and reflective, creating a sense of both remembrance and celebration. It reminds me of the pride, discipline, and sense of community that I felt while watching the performance.
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
Walking my 2 dogs and customising gifts for family and friends.
What song would you play at your funeral and why?
‘Amazing Grace’ played live on the bagpipes. I would like this song played at my funeral because it represents my faith journey and would provide a meaningful and heartfelt farewell for family and friends. It also reflects themes of grace, hope, and eternal peace.
What’s the most remarkable funeral you’ve ever arranged?
An intimate and personal farewell for a family’s loved one overlooking the garden.
What's one thing people don't know about you?
I’m the youngest of 6, I have 5 brothers. Family means everything to me. I share a close bond with all of my brothers, and I love and adore them dearly. They have been a constant source of support, laughter, guidance, and friendship throughout my life.
Family has always been at the centre of my life. I am blessed to have my mum still with us, and I cherish the love, strength, and care she continues to provide. I also carry the memory of my late father with me every day. His influence, values, and love helped shape the person I am, and I remain grateful for the time we shared together.
